Two weeks in China – 14-day itineraries
Two weeks is when China shows just how varied it is. You can travel from Chongqing through the Zhangjiajie mountains and the karst hills along the Li River all the way to Hong Kong, or combine pandas, the Leshan Giant Buddha and the turquoise lakes of Jiuzhaigou with the stone pillars that inspired the makers of “Avatar”. For a trip this long a one-way route works best: fly into one city and out of another. You can also combine two shorter itineraries if the second one starts where the first one ends.
Which itinerary should you choose?
- From the Avatar Mountains to Hong Kong (13 days): From the mountains to the sea: Chongqing, Zhangjiajie, Furong, a Li River cruise and finally Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Chongqing → Hong Kong.
- Sichuan Deluxe (14 days): Nature first: pandas, the Leshan Giant Buddha, Mount Emei, the Jiuzhaigou lakes and the Zhangjiajie mountains. Chengdu → Chongqing.

Frequently asked questions
Is two weeks in China a lot?
It's a good length for a first longer trip: you'll see two or three very different regions without rushing. One region needs about a week, and the classic Beijing–Xi'an–Shanghai route about 10–11 days.
Can I combine two itineraries?
Yes, if the second one starts where the first one ends, or nearby. Example above: Emperors & Hotpot ends in Chongqing and Spicy Chengdu starts in Chengdu. If you'd like a different combination, we'll put together a custom plan.
When is the best time to go?
Spring (March–May) or autumn (September–November). Chongqing is very hot in summer.
