China travel plan: Pandas, Buddha & a Sea of Clouds (6 days)

Six days in Sichuan for anyone who wants to combine a city with mountains on a short holiday. The first two days are Chengdu: pandas in the morning, teahouses, Sichuan opera and Sichuan food. Then a bullet train takes you to the Leshan Giant Buddha and up sacred Mount Emei, where you can spend the night at the top and watch the sunrise over a sea of clouds. Day five comes in two versions to choose from, and the whole trip starts and ends in Chengdu, which makes flights easy to book. What surprised us most? How safe China is – it's a good choice even for your first independent trip to Asia.
