China travel plan · Chongqing Municipality

China travel plan: Cyberpunk & Pandas (8 days)

The two biggest cities of western China and a sacred mountain in eight days. You start in Chongqing, a city built on hills above the Yangtze, where a monorail runs straight through an apartment block and Hongyadong lights up at night. A bullet train takes you to Chengdu for pandas, teahouses and hotpot, and from there you head to the Leshan Giant Buddha and Mount Emei. Fly into Chongqing and out of Chengdu – a good option when that's where the cheaper tickets are. What surprised us most was how technologically advanced China is – and in Chongqing, with its multi-level flyovers and skyscrapers rising from the slopes, you feel like you're in a science-fiction film.
